We are delighted that you are exploring our school as an option for your family.
Haile-Manas Academy is a residential high school, for high-achieving students in Grades 9 through 12. Through our outstanding academic program, co-curricular activities and caring community, our students thrive in their learning and grow in self-confidence.
Students join HMA typically as Grade 9 students. We accept applications from students who are currently in Grade 8. For the 2024-2025 school year, we also have a small number of places available in Grade 10 and will be accepting applications from students who are currently in Grade 9.
Tuition, room and board (including all fees)
Tuition, room and board for the 2024-2025 school year is $10,750USD. There is also a $100USD equipment use fee.
Tuition is payable in EtB at the exchange rate applicable on the date of payment. Tuition is paid in two equal installments, in August and January.
Application process. Admissions to HMA is merit-based and competitive. We also strive for gender balance and geographic diversity. There are several steps to our application process.
Step one - online application. Interested applicants start the process by completing a simple online application that asks for 6th, 7th and/or 8th grade report cards.
Step two - HMA admissions test. HMA will invite a limited number of applicants (contacted by phone or email) to take the HMA admissions test. The HMA admissions test focuses on aptitude and creative problem-solving and reading/writing skills. The test cannot be studied for.
Dates and locations of the HMA admissions test will be shared with eligible applicants AFTER they are contacted and invited to take the test.
Step three. HMA will contact students who do well on the admissions test for interviews. The purpose of the interview is to confirm that HMA is a good fit for the student and family, and to assess leadership potential and other skills and talents. Following the interviews, we will extend offers of admission as appropriate.
Admitted students will be expected to perform well on the 8th grade national exam as a condition of formal acceptance.
Please note that we receive hundreds of applications and can invite only a small number of applicants to take the HMA admissions test and/or for interviews.
Limited financial aid. To the extent our resources permit, we offer financial aid to a limited number of high-achieving, admitted students who demonstrate a clear, documented need.
Admissions on a Rolling Basis. We encourage interested students to apply as soon as possible. We admit students on a rolling basis and may stop accepting applicants for the 2024/2025 school year at any time.
